The Taj Mahal: A Timeless beauty of Love
Taj Mahal tour package showing beauty of the Taj Mahal in AGRA

TAJ MAHAL, the world-famous monument and most visited place honoring the city of Agra (India). This unmatched monument stands on the side of the holy river Yamuna. The Taj Mahal, an ivory-white marble mausoleum, is the ultimate monument of LOVE and PROMISE made to his wife. Commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, it was built as a breathtaking memorial for his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died in childbirth. As per historians, Mumtaz gave birth to 14 children in only 19 years. And at the time of her last childbirth, she was with her husband in Burhanpur, where he was campaigning against one emperor.

The construction:

Mumtaz Mahal passed away in 1631, and a grieving Shah Jahan vowed to build the most beautiful tomb ever to honor her memory. Construction began in 1632 and took about 22 years to complete. The colossal project required over 20,000 artisans, craftsmen, and calligraphers brought in from across India, Central Asia, and Iran. Materials were transported using over 1,000 elephants. Pure white marble was sourced from the Makrana mines in Rajasthan, while all precious and semi-precious stones—such as jade, lapis lazuli, turquoise, and jasper—were imported from China, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka to create the intricate floral inlays.

Architecture and Design

The complex is a masterpiece of Mughal architecture, widely attributed to the chief architect Ustad Ahmad Lahori. It seamlessly blends Persian, Islamic, and Indian architectural styles. The core mausoleum is famous for its perfect symmetry, crowned by a massive central dome and surrounded by four minarets that tilt slightly outward to protect the main building from earthquakes. The grounds feature Charbagh patterns, which, as per Islam, resemble the Bag-e-bahisht (garden of paradise), water channels, and reflecting pools.

The inside Tombs

Shah Jahan himself was placed to rest inside the Taj Mahal alongside his wife following his death in 1666. Recognized for its unparalleled beauty and historical significance, it was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. Today, it stands as one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
